Now let’s talk about news that made me angry, sad, and glad.

News that made me angry

Starbucks has closed 2 stores that were attempting to Unionize in Buffalo, New York answering the age old question, does my latte come with a splash of exploitation? This news makes me angry because we live in a world where companies like Starbucks pretend to have a good image while openly doing evil things because they’ve gotten so cocky that nothing will happen to them. Where is the commitment to pretending to be a good corporation? No mask for your super villain face? Like how can you commit to selling fair trade coffee while openly preventing fair trade from happening in your own stores? The sad reality is that we have gotten to the point where companies know that we know they are evil so they are just like whatever, let’s just take off the mask, it’s not like they’ll revolt, otherwise they would have done it already. And as angry as this makes me, I think it’s an opportunity for us to show them that we are going to do something. Keep trying to unionize friends and remember the best coworkers are coworkers who unionize and take long weed breaks.

News that made me sad

Ohio police dragged a paralyzed Black man out of the car and I’m really upset. I’m sad about this because duh, and also because how many times does this need to happen until everyone realizes ACAB? Instead of listening to the man who was telling them he can’t get out of the car, these cops dragged him from the car with no care because police do not view Black people as full humans as this country was founded on not recognizing Black people’s humanity. Everytime a police harms a Black person, remember this is a system feature not a system failure. It’s like when your late friend arrives late again. First of all calm down, you know the trains are crazy. Also, that's a system feature not a system failure. Some people are just always late and there is nothing they can do about it because time is a construct and maybe you shouldn’t be so mad at them because they are really trying their best. And no this is not about me constantly showing up late to everything, it’s about understanding the difference between system features and failures. So be kind to your late friend and let's abolish the police..

News that made me glad

It’s Striketober babies and I’m so excited. Almost 100K workers are on strike including John Deere workers and coal miners and I’m so happy about this because I finally learned what John Deere was. Didn’t know John Deere was an actual truck company and not some clothing brand. If you don’t recognize that reference, good for you, your closet was not filled with bad 2000s fashion when you were a preteen. Anyways this news makes me so happy because I truly hope it’s the beginning of workers starting to fight back against corporate thieves who steal our labor to buy new shoes that are meant to look like old shoes. Like seriously imagine wanting to so desperately look like you walk outside that you buy dirty shoes, when you could just go work like the people you are stealing from.
