Why didn't you kiss the ring?

I wrote this poem because I was very high and I was feeling a lot of things. The poem was inspired by my experience in corporate America and stand up comedy. It’s called Kiss the Ring. Onto the poem…

Kiss the Ring

You should have kissed the ring                                                                                           You should have fucking kissed the ring                                                                                  I told you to kiss the ring 
Why didn’t you do it? 

I didn’t want to 

But I told you to do it

I didn’t want to do it 

Okay so you didn’t do it 
But now you are upset because 
You want the things that only the ring can give you
But you didn’t kiss the ring and you knew you had to kiss the ring

I didn’t want to 

Why? 

'Cause I didn’t

That’s not a good reason

I don’t have a fucking good reason
I just didn’t do it okay
I just didn’t fucking want to 
That’s the reason I didn’t want to

Why didn’t you want to? 

I didn’t 
I just didn’t want to do it 
And I tried I really tried
I was kneeling for a while 
You know just kneeling 
And I got tired of kneeling and then when I got tired of kneeling 
They extended their fingers and pushed them on my lips 
Didn’t even ask me nicely
Just shoved it to my lips 
And said kiss it 
And I just couldn’t do it
I can’t
You already have me on my knees 
Why do you want me to kiss your hand? 

So you can put your knees on someone else’s back they said

I’m not putting my knees on someone else’s back so that I can kneel for you to put your legs on my back
I’m not doing that
Just get your legs off my back
And then I don’t fucking need someone to put my knees on

Nope unfortunately that’s not an option

Yes it’s an option, you can take your feet off my back and put them on the ground

Nope

What do you mean no? 

I mean I don’t want to, I want to put my foot on your back because your back is warm and soft 
Also I hate when my feet touch the ground, it freaks me out

That’s because you never do it
Just put your feet on the ground 
Just try it

Then you tried to wiggle their feet off your back?

Yes I did that

So you didn’t kiss the ring and then you tried to wiggle their feet off your back? 
What the fuck were you thinking? 

Yes I didn’t kiss the ring and I did try to wiggle their feet off my back because I’m tired

Then where did you get the energy to fight them? 

What do you mean where did I get the energy they had their feet on my back? 

So you had the energy to wiggle their feet off your back but you didn’t have the energy to keep kneeling? 

That’s right, I didn’t have the energy to keep kneeling but I did have the energy to try to make them take their feet off my back

That doesn’t make sense

What? 

I mean that doesn’t make sense

You can’t say you don’t have the energy to kneel on your knees for longer but then have the energy to wiggle somebody’s whole body weight off your back

What do you mean someone’s whole body weight? 

It’s just the feet? 

No, it's their whole body weight? 

From this perspective it looks like they just have their feet on your back but that’s because they're keeping you distracted with your painful knees

Yeah

So if you turn to the side a little you’ll see their full weight

Dude what the fuck that’s why it was so hard trying to wiggle them off

Nah dude you can’t wiggle them off
You have to toss them off
Which is hard to do because they’ve got all that privilege holding them up

What do you mean by privilege? 

Just turn your head a little more

Oh shit, is that a whole group of people keeping me down so they can stand on me? 

Yep they are

So you knew that shit this whole time? 

Yeah I did
That’s why I told you to kiss the ring

But I didn’t want to okay 

Well then you’ll have to live with the consequences of not kissing the ring

I’m okay with that
