There’s a joke in my family that if you want to find out what’s wrong with paradise just ask Marcela. Believe it or not I’m considered my family’s Debbie Downer. I don’t think I’m a Debbie Downer, people just don’t like it when you yell, schools are prisons, at a party even though it’s true. To prove to everyone and myself that I do in fact have positive thoughts, here is a list of things that I’m looking forward to next year.
Taking more naps. According to the nap ministry, “our rest is resistance”. I would love to rebel more by shutting my eyes in my bed or couch or yoga mat.
Summer. I love when the sun burns my skin a bit.
Comedy shows in the park. A combination of my two favorite things, laughing and the sun burning my skin.
Cute outfits. Putting together an iconic outfit makes me happy. Knowing I’m wearing a cute outfit, then having someone say “cute outfit” makes me happier.
Learning more about Black anarchism. I became an anarchist this year and it’s been really fun reading literature from Black people who want to abolish the state. It slaps like a rap diss song minus the toxicity.
Getting high and going to the beach. I’ve never done this before and I don’t know why. I’ll report back once I do it.
Reading more books. Sometimes when I’m reading a really good book it feels like I’m on a different plane of existence. I want to do that more because let’s be honest, this plane of existence sucks.
Getting more involved in the community. Some of my happiest moments this year were cleaning the Classon Community Fridge in Crown Heights. I don’t even clean my own fridge so I know community involvement was what brought me the joy.
Starting a podcast. Doing the Feel the News + Friends on YouTube made me realize that talking is actually another one of my favorite things. Also, people have been asking me for a podcast and I like to give the people what the people want.
Writing and shooting more short films. I love writing and shooting silly things because beneath my angry anti-capitalist shell is just a human who still thinks fart jokes are funny.
Feel the News the comedy show on January 1st at Friends and Lovers. You can get your tix for the show here.
What are you looking forward to next year?
P.S. I’ll start sending the Weekly Delight to only paying subscribers again next week, so subscribe if you’d like to keep getting it. If you can’t afford to pay just email me.
