I had to take a break because I’ve needed one.
This year has been very hard.
It started off with the police murders of two Black men that kept me awake.
I didn’t feel safe in my body.
There was a fire in my apartment building where a child died.
I didn’t feel safe in my home.
My brother was arrested for telling the police to put their guns down.
I was scared I would never see him again.
I didn’t feel like I could be safe anywhere.
I tried to keep going but I couldn’t.
So I took a break from writing this column because if I’m going to preach about the ills of capitalism, I have to do what capitalism says I’m not allowed to do, which is to stop.
I took a break from making news videos for TikTok despite this capitalist anxiety to keep going.
My soul was screaming for me to stop.
So I listened.
I’m taking a break because I deserve to rest.
I’m taking a break because you deserve to rest.
I initially thought this was going to be a short note but I just kept typing so now you know everything.
I’ll be back next week.
I hope you take the rest you need too.
I’ll leave you with these words that I colored during moments of extreme anxiety.
Coloring brings me solace.
I hope the words I colored bring you solace too.
See you next week,
❤️
take all the time you need! I hope you have an amazing rest :)
