Happy Sunday! I opened my refrigerator multiple times this morning even though I knew there was nothing in there. Why do we do this? Now let’s get to the news that made me angry, sad, and glad.
News that made me angry
The New York City Department of Buildings is being sued by Black workers for rampant discrimination including promoting under qualified white workers over Black workers and a department manager requiring only the Black workers to call him sir. This news makes me so angry because white supremacy is so deeply rooted in all the structures of this society that white people feel absolutely comfortable being rampantly racist in the workplace. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, white supremacy is a hell of a drug that emboldens white people to be racist because they know they’ll get away with it. When I worked in an office, I didn’t even feel comfortable heating up something in the microwave for more than three minutes because I felt like I was hogging the microwave; meanwhile, a white man who works for the city of New York felt perfectly at ease saying Black people in the office are too loud. As long as white people are wilding out in the office, which is going to happen as long as capitalism exists because capitalism and racism are the inseparable BFFs from hell (sorry Satan), Black people shouldn’t have to work. There I said it. If you don’t like this solution because you think it’s too extreme, then maybe let’s all get together and end this thing called racial capitalism.
