News that makes me feel like that one time my friends and I executed our plans
Mexico’s water is being jeopardized by multinational companies and a collective of Indigenous people called the Indigenous Caravan for Water and Life is touring Mexico to spread awareness of the damage being done by colonizers. Yes, colonization is still happening and so is Grey’s Anatomy. Unlike Grey’s Anatomy though, colonization will not be ended by a corporation, it will be ended by the people. That’s why this news of Indigenous people traveling around Mexico talking about the negative impact of colonization on Indigenous communities makes me feel like that one time my friends and I made plans and executed them, collectively strong. The only way to end the destruction of our humanity and the planet is through collective action that destroys imperialism. Just like the only way my friends and I were able to execute our plans depended on all of us not taking off our bras when we got home because we knew if we took our bras off we wouldn't leave our apartments to meet each other. Everyone knows once the bra is off, you aren’t going out. Which is so confusing to me because I’m most comfortable when my bra is off.
Anyways, Indigenous people already know that the government and corporations are enemies and it’s time we all get on board and start fighting with them. Our struggles are not just aligned, they are the same struggle. Corporations like Dr. Pepper and Volkswagen being the largest water users in Puebla, Mexico is directly aligned to our struggles in the United States because corporations are looting our communities here too. So let’s get together and free ourselves from capitalism and bras!
News that made me like that one time I was avoiding my parents’ phone calls
The Earl and Countess of Wessex canceled their trip to Grenada because they were scared of being asked about reparations. They should probably cancel their names too because being a monarchist in this day and age is just tacky. I know Disney is still trying to sell us on the monarchy being cool, but can we just get to the point where we agree that being a monarch should be celebrated as much as getting a root canal. Yes, being a prince or a princess does make you a bad person. Why do you want control over people and resources? Anyway this news of a bunch of colonizers fleeing the slightest wisp of accountability reminds me of the time in college where I avoided my parents phone calls because I was getting an A- in economics. No, I’m not equating the responsibility of enslaving Black people for years to not acing my economics class; I’m saying the British treat their sins of the past as casually as not acing an economics class. The nerve to tour the scene of you crimes and expect to be treated like royalty is an indication of the fact that you think your actions were not that bad. They should be ashamed! Not one single British royal should ever set a foot in the Caribbean unless they come with reparations and are willing to be pelted by tomatoes for at least five days nonstop.
