The following is my definition of loser under capitalism.
los·er | /ˈlo͞ozər/| noun
A person whose goals don’t align with capitalists’ goals.
This is why being a loser under capitalism is actually good
Since we are children we are taught that the worst thing we can be is a loser. What is a loser? Capitalism defines success as having a lot of money. It doesn’t matter how or why they get the money. It doesn’t matter if the money was gotten from harvesting human organs. The villains in our society are applauded instead of being denigrated because of how much money the have. The fact that Jeff Bezos can walk around proudly instead of being booed is proof that in our society having money is all that matters. If you can afford to buy expensive dirty shoes because you are too rich to walk around, but you want your shoes to look worn, you are a hero. It doesn’t matter if those shoes were bought by money you got from selling rat meat as an exotic meat. Money means you are a winner.
Now if you don’t have money, you are a loser. Even if the reason why you don’t have money is because you’ve chosen to dedicate your life to taking care of other humans who need you. If you are a poorly paid angel, you are a loser. The reality is that the world we live in, the people who do the most important jobs make the least while the people who do harmful jobs make the most. In his book “Bullshit Jobs” David Graeber writes,
“our society has reached the point where not only is the social value of work usually in inverse proportion to its economic value (the more one’s work benefits others, the less one is likely to be paid for it) but many people have come to accept this situation is morally right — they genuinely believe this is how things ought to be. That we should reward useless or even destructive behavior, and, effectively, punish those whose daily labors make the world a better place .”
So if we describe losers as people who make the least amount of money and people who make the least amount of money do the most important work, then turns out it’s actually good to be a loser under capitalism.
Also, if you are a person who doesn’t/can’t have a job, you are considered to be a loser. However, if you don’t have a job, you are doing less harm than people who make a lot of money from their job.
So it turns out it’s actually good for you to be an unemployed loser!
