Now let’s talk about news that made me angry, sad, and glad.
News that made me angry
Unless you live under a rock, you know that Kyle Rittenhouse, the ghost of white supremacist present and future, was acquitted of all charges on his murder of two protestors in Kenosha. Also, if you live under a rock, can I please join you, things are pretty bad up here. People who support the verdict claim that Kyle Rittenhouse was defending himself, because we all know self-defense is starting a fight. This news makes me sad because self-defense is only a term that the injustice system (see what I did there) has long decided only applies to white people, even when they are instigators. Especially when those white men kill a Black person, or white people who dare to stand with Black people.
While Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted for practicing his right to be a white supremacist, Marissa Alexander, a black woman in Florida was sentenced to prison for firing warning shots to scare off her abusive husband who had threatened her. Yes, warning shots. I thought shooting a gun in the air was definitely one of Florida’s pastimes along with wrestling alligators. Nonetheless, Marissa was defending herself but the state of Florida was like, nope the only people who have the right to defend themselves are white men and COVID-19. Wearing a mask is a direct violation of COVID-19’s right to live. Marissa was sentenced in 2012, way before COVID-19, but I’m imagining that’s what the judge would have said now.
News that made me sad
Continuing with the theme of the injustice system, two men Muhammad A. Aziz and Khalil Islam were exonerated of the murder of Malcolm X. What makes me angry about this news is that the Netflix Documentary is what triggered a review of the case when there was plenty of evidence the two men were innocent including one of the men who actually killed Malcolm said multiple times that the two men were innocent. Filmmakers being more interested in justice than the United States government is obviously very upsetting but not surprising. Good filmmakers are interested in revealing the truth and the United States government is interested in burying the truth, because the truth always makes it look bad. Bad filmmakers on the other hand should not be trusted, and yes I’m talking about Guy Ritchie and Quentin Tarantino. I know this is an unpopular opinion but I stand by it.
In this case, the truth that was buried that J. Edgar Hoover withheld information about the presence of FBI informants in the ballroom and on the trial witness stand. The NYPD also had undercover officers in the room. Yet the FBI and NYPD withheld this information because destroying the lives of Black men was just another Tuesday.
News that made me glad
So now that we know that the state will send Black people to prison for nothing. Also, no one should be sent to prison for anything just like no one should be forced to listen to Nickelback. If you want to listen to “Photograph” please use your headphones. This isn’t about me and my pettiness, this is about me being happy that a Black man, Julius Jones, was not murdered by the state. I’m going to allow myself to feel that joy for a moment. Okay, moment over. The death penalty is still around and it’s no surprise that whenever cases like these come up it’s usually a Black person. This is because the death penalty is racist as one would expect from anything that comes from the the United States. The United States government can only produce racist systems and Nickelback can only produce annoying music. So yes, let’s be happy that Julius Jones has been spared from death, but we must move forward to abolish the death penalty and prisons.
That’s it for the news, but don’t leave yet…
If you like my TikTok videos and this newsletter and can afford to support my labor, please become a patron. If you need an incentive, I wrote a very short humorous Anti-capitalist dictionary which you can buy on my Etsy store, or is free for Patrons (it will drop this week).
ICYMI This week on TikTok I talked about the Flint Water Crisis, Joe Biden not caring about global warming, and white supremacy being the foundation of this country.
I’m currently reading articles from this amazing thread about the history of gender and sexuality by Afrofuturist Abolitionists of the Americas. Hint, homophobia and transphobia is another terrible European export to Africa.
Don’t despair, people are fighting every day against racial capitalism and the heteropatriarchy. Head on over to IGD News to know what’s happening, it will give you hope.
