Happy Sunday! If you missed the last Feel the News + Friends a comedy news show, you can watch it here.
Now let’s talk about news that made me angry, sad, and glad.
News that made me angry
Fossil fuel companies had the largest delegation at the COP26 than any country proving that the United Nations Climate Change Conference is just like any other work conference, an excuse for everyone to get away from doing their job and buy lots of drinks with their company credit card. This news makes me angry because we are facing a climate change catastrophe and world leaders are pretending to do something about it when in reality the perpetrators of the catastrophe are calling the shots. This is why the COP26 is nothing more than a terrible reality show; it pretends to be real when in reality it’s just toxic theater with producers pulling the actors’ strings. Actually, COP26 is worse than a terrible reality show because it wasn’t entertaining and we didn’t see anyone get drunk. Given that the whole conference was a show, it’s not surprising that it ended with an agreement that would not prevent the 1.5 °C increase in global temperature, which scientists have said is required to prevent irreversible climate catastrophe.
News that made me sad
Proving that COP26 was nothing but theater, Biden is starting the largest offshore drilling auction in the history of this settler hellscape, days after the end of the conference. This man will not even fully unpack from pretending that he will do something about global warming before his administration lets oil and gas companies drill into the Gulf of Mexico. This news makes me sad because the people who will be most negatively impacted and gain the least from this drilling are Black and Indigenous communities. It’s so hard to imagine a world where people think they stand to gain something from destroying their home even though it’s the reality we live in. Imagine thinking, this house will become completely unlivable if I keep selling parts of the roof to buy things I don’t need but it’s okay because I don’t live in that part of the house. That’s exactly what the US government and corporations are doing because as long as it’s Black and Indigenous people being harmed for profit, it’s worth doing.
News that made me glad
The workers of Burgerville are on the precipice of becoming the very first unionized fast food workers in the so-called US. Burgerville sounds like a city with burger buildings and mayo rivers. Nonetheless, I digress. This news makes me so glad because it's further proof that when workers unite, they can create a better world. We don’t need superheroes, we are superheroes who are too busy fighting for freedom to come up with ideas for formfitting superhero costumes.
Once the collective agreement is ratified, Burgerville workers will be entitled to a “three month set schedule, paid vacation time, paid parental leave, improved job safety, and greater job security”. Obviously all these “entitlements” are just small gains to make living under capitalism a little more tolerable. The goal is to tear down this whole entire system so we can chill under a tree without having to ask anyone for permission. Until then we have to keep celebrating these wins so we can keep fighting as the badass superheroes we are.
That’s it for the news, but don’t leave yet…

This week on TikTok I dropped clips from Feel the News: The comedy show about Democrats and Republicans being on the same team and Batman.
I’m still reading Freedom Is a Constant Struggle by Angela Y. Davis and the thing that has really resonated with me the most is her insistence that the fight to Free Palestine is tied to the fight for Black liberation. You can find a free version here.
