The News
IRS researchers found that the top 1% don’t report 21% of their income to avoid taxes.
How should you feel about this news?
Not surprised. Rich people are able to get away with tax evasion because capitalism is neo-feudalism and as you know only poor people work and pay taxes in feudalist states.
If you need further proof that taxes not for rich people, while rich and poor people are audited at the same rate, the top 1% income earners are able to get away with tax evasion because “35% of the income earned at the top is not comprehensively examined [by the IRS], while the bottom 99% of the income distribution is comprehensively examined”. So pretty much the IRS pretends not to see 35% of the wealthiest people’s money, like you pretend not to see the dust on your baseboards, because seeing it means you have to do something about it.
And the IRS can’t and won’t do anything about rich people evading taxes like a puppy evades a bath because wealthy people hide their money through offshore assets and pass-through businesses and the IRS just doesn’t look there. The IRS is the dream parent who will not find your weed in your drawer because even though they know you are hiding it there they just won’t look.
Why isn’t the IRS looking for money where everyone knows it is?
Part of the claim is that the IRS has been getting less funding over the years so it’s harder for them to go after rich people’s money. I know what you are thinking. Isn’t the IRS part of the government? So, if the government isn’t funding the IRS, then that means that government doesn’t want to get rich people’s hidden money. Yep, you are right! The government is pretty okay with rich people not paying taxes because rich people and the government are one and the same.
Seriously, rich people run the government.
Nancy Pelosi is worth $114 million and Mitch the frog is worth $22 million. That’s why “36% of federal income taxes unpaid are owed by the top 1%” and the IRS continues to audit rich people at the same rate as poor people. As long as rich people keep running things, they’ll make laws that suit them and screw us. Which is not surprising because as we all know you could tell which kids made the yearbook based on how many times you saw them or their friends in the yearbook.
That’s the news but other things you should now.
