Let's Talk about Lori Lightfoot

The News

Lori Lightfoot, the mayor of Chicago and brand ambassador for “all skinfolk ain’t kinfolk”, has refused to outright reject a permit that would place a toxic metal shredding plant, General Iron, previously located in a wealthy white community, in the predominantly black and brown Southeast Side Chicago. Southeast Side Chicagoans are on hunger strike and an environmental racism complaint, filed by the community, is being investigated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

How should you feel about it?

Excited!

I know it’s common sense to be angry at environmental racism, but hear me out…

Lori Lightfoot has proven over and over again that she is not going to be beat by other mayors in America’s most racist mayor competition. She should be proud because she’s definitely a contender. She responded to the hunger strikes from black and brown people who don’t want a toxic operation in their neighborhood by releasing a statement saying she cares about environmental justice but she won’t reject the permit to locate the General Iron metal shredding plant in Southeast Side Chicago. She’s pretty much saying, General Iron might be too dangerous for a white neighborhood, but might be toxic enough for black and brown people? The confidence to be downright racist while claiming to be a civil rights champion is something that all Democrats aspire to develop and it’s exciting to see a black woman doing it so well.

What can be we do about Lori Lightfoot?

I hate to stomp on another black woman’s aspirations, but we must shame her for contending for the most racist mayor award by carrying out petty activism against her.

What is petty activism?

Petty activism is for petty people who want to hurt bad people’s feelings with hopes that hurting horrible people’s feelings will reduce incidents of horrible personhood. This term was coined by @_grace.ws_ in the TikTok comment section of a video where I said we should stop shopping at Amazon to be petty.

How do we apply petty activism to Lori Lightfoot?
